the True Mettle of Man

This talk will look at the extraordinary history of the relationship
between human beings and gold. From the ancient world until today, gold has been centrally connected with human evolution. In gold our humanity is both reflected and revealed, both our fallen selves
as well as our immortal selves.

Sanford Miller
Sanford received his B.A. from the University of California at Santa Barbara
in Religious Studies in 1972, with an emphasis on Eastern Religion. He then lived and worked in the Camphill movement in Scotland with mentally handicapped adults for 6 years before training for the priesthood in The Christian Community. He was ordained in 1982 and has worked in Pforzheim, Germany, Boston, and for the past fifteen years now in Sacramento, CA.

the Gold of South America

– from pristine purity to the quest of an ‘unholy Grail’

The noble Incas opened the soil with golden blades to prepare for sowing,
so the sun-spirit could penetrate earth's darkness. In their greed the Spanish kings could only perceive the outer gold, and their quest to rule the world in the name of the "only church" darkened the light of Christianity. Shiploads of physical gold from South America to Spain transformed European culture, initiating what we now call 'globalization'. And now the quest for a truly Holy Grail.

Martín de Gans
Martin was born in 1948 in Holland, baptized and confirmed
in The Christian Community of The Hague. He attended Waldorf primary school, public secondary school, and language studies at Amsterdam University. In 1976 Martin was ordained in Holland, emigrated in 1980 to Argentina and has been working in Buenos Aires since then. Since 1990 he has been lenker for South America and Spain.
In 1983 he married Cristina Martínez from Alicante, Spain, who is an artist and community-worker. They have four children and (up to now) four grandchildren.
